PokerStars IT: Internship in Sofia – Mission Possible

In September, the first month of autumn, PokerStars opened its virtual doors for the first group of IT interns in Sofia. Under the careful supervision of our experienced colleagues, 20 eager minds had the opportunity to dive into the world of Java, JavaScript and React and polish their social skills with a tailored Soft Skills training module.

We know that the first steps you take within any professional field are always the hardest ones. That’s when gaining experience and translating knowledge into practice matters the most. With that in mind, we structured our 2-week internship in a way that’s fully aligned with the current trends and skills needed on the IT market.

Following a holistic approach, the main focus of the first-week modules were JavaScript and React, while the talks during the second one explored Java and back-end development. With that, we aimed to provide a full picture of how an application works and what skills are essential for every full-stack developer.

In course of the modules, the interns learned more about the Scrum framework and the Waterfall model, as well as how to work with Git and a GitHub account.

To top it all off, the programme concluded with Soft skills training encompassing Effective Communication, Interviewing skills and Time Management – know-how necessary for every successful professional.

All the talks were led by skilful colleagues from our IT teams, who gladly volunteered to share their knowledge and practical subject matter expertise.

As we value flexibility, the whole programme was conducted virtually over Zoom for 4 hours a day. Behind the curtains, all the participants kept in touch via a dedicated Slack channel, where they can still share their questions and feedback.

We are grateful for all the curiosity and passion for technology we witnessed and will continue to aim for sharing knowledge and experience. Stay tuned for more future opportunities for junior talent at PokerStars!
