The role: We are looking for a Compliance Director to join our Legal and Risk, Flutter International team in London.

Reporting directly to the Chief Legal and Risk Officer of Flutter International, you will be a key member of the Legal and Risk Management Team. You will lead the Compliance team and ensure they fulfil their duties and responsibilities across all jurisdictions relating to regulatory licensing compliance, anti-bribery and corruption (ABC) compliance, Sanctions compliance and due diligence!

In doing so, the business operates on a locally licenced and offshore basis.

Why we need you

As a member of the Legal and Risk Department’s leadership team you will lead, manage and empower a large Compliance team across multiple locations. Ensure compliance with the rules, requirements and principles of applicable regulators including over:

  • existing gaming licences (over 19 at present) including regulatory, marketing and technical matters;
  • ABC;
  • Sanctions regulation; and
  • other relevant regulatory frameworks impacting on the business of Flutter International, such as jurisdictional consumer laws.

You will spearhead the build out of the compliance function including:

  • the creation of a new department structure, and the hiring of appropriately qualified staff;
  • the creation of a compliance matrix and a monitoring plan for each licence covering regulations for gaming, ABC, Sanctions and other relevant legislation, and the review of these periodically;
  • undertaking risk assessments of our compliance programmes on a periodic basis and advising the business of areas of concern and proposing solutions to address the same;
  • development of compliance manuals, policies and procedures, roles and responsibilities and the review of these periodically;
  • development of ABC and Sanctions compliance programmes (including the monitoring of high risk third parties working for Flutter International) which align with international regulations including DoJ, UK Bribery Act 2010 and OFAC requirements;
  • You will promote the importance of compliance within Flutter International allowing for a culture of compliance to be developed from the top downwards; and
  • Lead and deliver divisional change initiatives while regularly monitoring and evaluating performance.

Yu will provide expert mentorship and direction to the first line of defence in the application of effective controls to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and helping to see opportunities to embed consistent compliance and risk considerations into key decision making.

Provide assurance to the CLRO, ExCo and Flutter International Divisional Risk Committee in respect of the adequacy of design and operation of the division’s compliance systems and controls to handle risk and that they align with appropriate laws and regulations.

Engage with gaming, ABC, and Sanctions regulators across multiple jurisdictions in respect of Flutter International’s regulatory requirements and compliance position including in the context of licenses, audits, enforcement actions, day to day queries, and relationship building ensuring at all times that Flutter International’s potential exposure is minimised and risked handled.

You will reduce and mitigate Flutter International’s exposure to legal/regulatory enforcement action by customers, regulators and governments arising from failings in controls and process. Provide compliance mentorship and advice on long-term business-critical strategic, financial, operational decisions including issue management providing pragmatic solutions and recommending a course of action

Contribute to the formulation of Flutter International’s strategy and plans to deliver value in line with customer, group, and employee expectations, while leading efforts to reduce compliance risks that can put the strategy at risk.

You will improve Flutter International’s ability to take advantage of business opportunities through effective compliance analysis of new opportunities for business development and new sources of revenue growth while identifying and supervising the key compliance risks.

In line with Flutter’s risk management strategy and principles, contribute to the divisional risk management system on a continuous basis to ensure the compliance risks to which the division is, or could be, exposed are reported. Ensure appropriate alignment to the Group risk appetite in relation to compliance matters.

Handle and ensure cohesion between business strategy and external affairs including media relations to improve the public perception of the business across all brands and platforms in respect of compliance with our various regulatory obligations.

Who we’re looking for

The role requires a qualified lawyer with significant, validated experience in senior legal or compliance roles within highly regulated and international companies. Experience in the gaming industry would be a significant advantage.

Your experience:

  • A successful track record as a Legal and/or Compliance leader with experience of operating at a senior level and delivering across a sophisticated, matrixed and multi-jurisdictional organisation.
  • Highly commercially and customer oriented.
  • Breadth of vision – able to combine effective critical thinking with efficient and practical management.
  • Experience with engaging with regulators across multiple jurisdictions, the broader partner community as well as with external advisers.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to connect with impact and relevance at all levels across the organisation.
  • Ability to understand sophisticated laws and regulations across many jurisdictions to help ensure that Flutter is both compliant and financially successful.
  • Excellent analytical skills coupled with an ability to craft and implement practical and proportionate solutions.
  • Ability to identify and understand key issues, remove obstacles and implement creative solution.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity as well as provide clarity on complex issues.
  • Delivery focused with the drive and ability to deliver through others to strict deadlines and balance and delegate multiple tasks/initiatives.
  • First class leadership skills with personal credibility and ability to encourage and empower others to perform at the highest standard.
  • Team driven, with the ability to “lead from the front” and “roll up the sleeves” when vital.
  • A flexible, balanced and, when necessary, tough decision maker with ability to execute in an efficient and focused way.
