The role: Database administrator (PostgreSQL) UK REMOTE
We are looking for Database administrator (PostgreSQL) to join our busy and dynamic team based in our Leeds office, or UK remote if preferred.
As a Postgres DBA, you will be responsible for supporting the operational elements of GSTP database infrastructure as well as involved in project delivery.
The DBA is a member of a team responsible for the daily management and administration of a variety of database clients at various levels. While your role is very technical in nature you will be called upon to discuss these matters to business-minded individuals inside the customer’s organization. Technologies are focused on PostgreSQL.
Your prime responsibility as DBA would be supporting the operational availability of these systems daily.
Why we need you: –
You are familiar with the full cycle of PostgreSQL instance/database management: software installation/patching; upgrade; configuration and deployment of instance/database; capacity planning; monitoring of capacity, availability, performance of the instance/database; performance analysis and tuning; backup, restore and recovery; setup replication and high availability; architect customized backup solutions; scripting jobs for automation; problem fix; Security management and auditing; documentation etc.
In this position, you`ll interact with application teams and peer support teams (DBA, SA, Storage, project management etc.) for project implementation and ongoing support. You`ll take initiative to improve the performance, efficiency of the database assurance operation; being cohesive to standard methodology and collaborate/coordinate with the DBA peers on change management, problem management, and work management.
Our team works on 24×7 on-call rotation and troubleshooting problem tickets and response to customer requests and change controls and as part of the team, you`ll take part in that schedule. You`ll support other DBA/project activities and help desk. You`ll overall contribute to knowledge and experience sharing
Who are we looking for: –
You have been involved in the installation/setup and maintenance of Oracle and Postgres database software with updates/patches. You have developed and maintained accurate documentation of all areas encompassing the database infrastructure.
You have experience in Database Security – access, authentication, auditing, vulnerability assessment. You have performed migration and upgrade tasks while minimizing downtime. You have been involved in database backups, restore, and recovery tasks. You have a solid grasp of planning and executing DR planning/testing, SQL, PL/SQL programming, application DBA (data modeling).
You have good analytical and problem-solving and skills. You are proactive and easily communicate with both technical and non-technical experts. You are an outstanding teammate and a good performer under minimum supervision.
As the ideal candidate, you will have: –
You have over 2 years’ experience as a Database Administrator working with Postgres in an enterprise capacity. Experience with MySQL in a production environment is an asset. You had exposure to Linux/VMware environment.
Availability to provide 24×7 on-call support would be considered a plus.
