Lead Product Designer

Leeds, United Kingdom Business Support Permanent

The role: Lead Product Designer

We are looking for a Lead Product Designer to join our busy and dynamic Global Sportsbook and Trading Platform (GSTP) team in our Leeds office.

Are you our next star player?

Here’re some words from your future manager, Nick, “There’s nothing quite like building something new from the ground up and that’s exactly what we’re doing in the GSTP Sportsbook team. It’s a really exciting challenge but it’s also very ambitious and complex, so we definitely have a ‘high performance’ culture, but we have fun whilst we’re doing it – there’s a great mix of people in the team, from brilliant technical thinkers to wild creative types, so there’s no ‘one size fits all’ person we’re looking for. If you’re up for a challenge and can bring some fresh thinking and energy to the team we definitely want to hear from you!”

Why we need you

You will act as a mentor, domain specialist and leader across all 3 areas of GSTP from the new global Sportsbook to trading and risk management.

For you, design doesn’t just mean sitting behind a desk producing outstanding visuals and user journeys (although you will be doing that regularly) it means being a leader and mentor to the rest of the design and product teams across GSTP.

You are required to facilitate effective large scale workshops with the stakeholders right up to Director level, use your design skills to produce spectacular visuals and bring our customers to life through interpreting research, reading the market and anticipating (and being one step ahead) of our customers next moves.

  • An outstanding communicator, presenter and relationship manager. You’ll build positive relationships with researchers, designers and UX architects, product managers and the wider team. You’ll also be a ‘force to be reckoned with’ – a domain specialist whose opinion is respected because of your depth of skills and expertise.
  • Be ready to lead a hardworking team of researchers and designers.
  • Be a forward-thinking designer of online and mobile products. You’ll be able to easily switch not just between mobile and desktop but also between iOS and Android and all the variants in between. You will have an in depth understanding of the nuances of each format and will use this to bring beautiful and impactful customer experiences to life.
  • Organise, facilitate and lead regular innovation sessions, product reviews, and design sprints.
  • Keep up to date with the latest industry trends and share this with internal communities, using your presentation skills and stakeholder network that you will build.
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, transparent, non-hierarchal culture.
  • Act as a leader and mentor, part of the senior management team within GSTP. What you say will impact the fundamental decisions we take.
  • Cover our rapidly evolving multi-channel products, and occasionally work on exciting projects outside of the agile workflow.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, results driven organisation.
  • Be a cornerstone in building a world class Lean UX culture across the whole of GSTP and ultimately across the Group.

You’re someone who can spot opportunity in the detail and who isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo – you’ll obsess about the customer at all times and won’t have any problem challenging other senior leaders where you think we aren’t doing what’s right for them. We’ll expect you to look inside and outside the market place for market opportunities in key areas like navigation, feature set and more.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Expertise in web design, mobile design and the nuances of different formats. You’ll utilise outstanding skills in prototyping software, Adobe CC and more.
  • Extensive knowledge of how to advise user researchers in planning, facilitating and analysing field research, e.g. diary studies, contextual interviews and interpreting the results into brilliant experiences.
  • Delegating work across the design team, utilising your team in the most effective way.
  • Acting as a peer with Senior Product Managers and Heads of Product in steering our product towards excellence. You’ll challenge where needed and roadmaps will change because of your influence.
  • An obsession for the finer detail, constantly striving for perfection.
  • An inspirational character, acting as a beacon of expertise and design insight across GSTP.

What’s in it for you?

Our experience-based salaries are competitive. Plus, there’s a discretionary annual performance bonus. And we provide advice and dedicated assistance to those moving to Leeds.

Your package will include:

  • health and dental insurance for you, your partner and your children (if you all live at the same address)
  • the option to join our company pension scheme
  • £1,000 as a congratulations if you have a baby whilst you work for us
  • discounted gym membership
  • in-house training and development to develop your skills, progressing your career
  • free fresh fruit, snacks and drinks in the office
  • social events; including our sensational summer and Christmas parties.

What happens next?

If you’re what we’re looking for, next up will be a phone interview. And if that goes well, we’ll meet you for a Zoom/face-to-face interview.
