We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our Engineering team in Leeds.

We’re on an exciting journey, and we are seeking for you to lead a squad at the heart of our betting platform API, contributing to a large ecosystem of betting services. We are looking for you.

Are you our next star player?

You’ll be heavily involved in utilising the latest technologies to help build, configure and deploy our services using tools such as Java, Chef, AWS, Jenkins, Kafka and much more. You’ll be the person to work closely with your team, lead by example to perform day-to-day mentoring of your direct reports. You’ll be a self-motivated individual and be willing to contribute at all levels, listening and learning from those around you. Why we need you

We need you to work closely with our technical leaders to help define and achieve our technical vision. We need you to help scale our organisation and report into an Engineering manager to recruit the best engineers for your squad. We are looking for someone to be the heart of our engineering team and this could be you.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who can help assist our engineers to work closely with colleagues in all positions, so communication and interpersonal skills are important for who we are looking for. You’d be the person to keep teams moving and jump in where there may be a gap to help keep work flowing. Modern software engineering relies on iterative, incremental development and fast feedback so you’d be the person to have a good understanding of the mechanics of this including a understanding of automation and its role in modern software delivery.

Your experience:

You are agile. You have experience of working in a modern agile environment. Scrums and Kanbans are your forte. You have a past history of working with product teams and driving team focus on technical delivery goals whilst balancing quality and user value. 

You lead by example and you have a deep understanding of the software design of products, we’re looking for you to be a custodian to the team, helping shape our delivery. We’re looking for someone capable of motivating teams, helping them become autonomous and work more effectively through the strong understanding of agile practices.

Your skills:

You’d be the person to have experience of working with streams of data using Kafka, RabbitMQ / ActiveMQ, NoSQL (Cassandra) and SQL Databases (MySQL). You are the collaborate with partners to help align your squad with the tribe and delivery.

You are skilled within software delivery and can work both independently and collaboratively with good time and prioritisation skills. You’re the one to lead by example, push from the front and sets a clear direction for your squad whilst encouraging effective collaboration in multi disciplinary squads. You’re a coach. You’re a mentor. You’re a supporter.
