The role: Senior Java Developer 

We are now recruiting for a Senior Java Developer to join our Casino team in based in Richmond Hill, Toronto!

Are you a Senior Developer, with the experience and expertise in developing Mid-Tier application-level matching the highest industry standards?

We are on the look out for someone who has solid understanding of OOP principles, Streams, algorithmic thinking, and follow the best coding practices in your everyday job. You are knowledgable in security, multi-threading, throttling, load balancing, monolithic and micro-services architecture.

This role is in need of someone who is independent, good at prioritizing their own tasks in the context of an Agile environment, can effectively communicate with other teams, and able work under pressure for reasonable time. You will thrive to understand the Big Picture and help business use the right technology to enable and achieve their goals!

Why we need you:

This position provides the successful candidate with the opportunity to become a part of the PokerStars Casino Web team that develop and maintain the application layer for multiple clients and platforms. The role is in charge of the latest processes and technology in order to build and maintain scalable, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain existing Casino Mid-Tier application layer and develop new modules to meet Business and platform requirements
  • Write clear, robust, unit tested, and well documented code following the accepted coding standards and industry best practices
  • Actively participate and lead evaluation, design, implementation, and documentation of mid-tier modules
  • Actively participate in code reviews by providing constructive comments and sharing and enforcing best practices, to improve codebase quality, efficiency, and security
  • Mentor and guide junior peers by providing quality coaching and ensuring proper execution of their tasks
  • Participate in investigation of Production incidents, improve logging and reporting
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest technology updates in the industry related to the development stack
  • Follow Agile methodology and company’s SDLC process(es)
  • Provide accurate effort and duration estimates for well-defined tasks, and timely updates on progress and important details of projects at key phases of software development
  • Complete tasks within given estimates and reasonable deviation
  • Collaborate with team leads, architects, and product owners in order to avail interactive and scalable software and provide technical leadership to key stakeholders
  • Research and evaluate new methodologies and technologies that improve the quality, reliability, security, and performance of the mid-tier department’s software development systems and processes

Your experience:

  • Expert knowledge and hands-on experience of Java and Spring framework
  • Proven experience with Agile (Scrum) development
  • Knowledge of unit testing frameworks (such as Junit and/or Cucumber) and Maven or equivalent tools
  • Working experience with Docker and Kubernetes and solid knowledge of Git
  • Working experience with multiple IDEs (such as Intellij IDEA and/or Eclipse)
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Computer Science (preferred) or equivalent practical experience
  • Capable of clear and effective communication, both in written and in verbal form
  • Empower team members through technical mentoring, contributions to the team’s documentation repository, and providing automation for manual tasks where appropriate

“Plus not a must” Experience

  • Frontend technologies (JavaScript, TypeScript, React or Angular), C++, Kotlin, Jenkins, and/or AWS

The salary for this job is based on experience, so whilst we are not able to go into detail at this stage, we can say that we offer great salary packages and a discretionary annual performance bonus.
