Why we need you
As the UI Lead, you will encourage, develop and champion a team of skilled, hardworking designers. You will lead by example ensuring the team has support on both design driven and business driven initiatives. You will be integral to the customer centric design process the team adopts today, as well as contributing to the continued growth and company awareness of user-centred design. In this role, the successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for user-centred design and design fidelity, and collaborate with managers of other UX, Product, and Development teams to secure consistency across all products.
Who we’re looking for
You will be e a great people manager, managing a team of UI designers by offering support, leaning in when you need to, all the while empowering your team. Conduct one to ones and encourage personal growth in the team through effective goal setting and training
Be responsible for the vision for visual design at a group level, while collaborating across brands. Lead in a cross-business UI Design guild, elevating visual design across the business
You will work closely with brand, marketing and product, and be responsible for helping to drive an overall look and feel for Stars digital experiences that delivers. You’ll drive the tools and processes for UI designers, working with UX Architects and sharing responsibility for prototype production for user testing research and demos, as well as Development for ensuring seamless implementation.
You will form part of the CXD management team to help embed seamless processes and collaborate on the delivery of outstanding cross channel designs.
You will ensure UI Designers embed their work in the CX Design process, clearly communicating design decisions and working closely with developers on transitions and technical feasibility, whilst working with UX Researchers to use insights to inform design choices understanding the customer need and sentiment translating these into engaging and usable designs.
You will own the Design System roadmap and will be accountable for communicating with partners and leadership teams the roll out plan. You will be an advocate for design standard methodology and helping to educate the business on the importance of consistent design through the use of a Design System.
You will be active in understanding and sharing the latest solutions for leading a Design System, by being an active member of the design community and championing standard methodology.
You are an infectious personality and an ability to get both your team and key partners to buy into your vision. A leader who puts the team first, is intent on removing roadblocks and facilitating the best working environment for team members
You have experience in building a tight knit design team of great performers. A comprehensive understanding of user centred design and experience of being an integral part of a design team from an in-house environment or similar agency set up.
The ability to critique and constructively give feedback to the team, in a way that challenges, while fostering a culture where people feel safe to fail and push themselves. A strong communicator and be able to build on current relationships and create new ones within the business and encourage your team to do the same.
Have experience designing solutions for all channels (responsive and native) and be proficient in Figma, and Creative Suite. Cross’ platform knowledge, that allows you to speak the language and engage with all business areas
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
Crafted career competency frameworks and career plans for a design team.
Implemented or ran a Design System at a similar size company and understand the value it can bring to a company. An understanding that the efficiency and benefit can be measured, crafting metrics that allow the Design System to be championed and translation of the benefits into a commercial framework.
Experience in animation. You don’t have to have worked at Pixar, but we want someone who understands digital experiences aren’t static. You understand that bringing products to life through transitions and micro interactions are how you make an experience feel premium.
You will have a knowledge and a real passion for the latest design tools and industry standards, that extends outside of the 9-5, engaging actively in the design community.
